– Received orders from the world’s leading computer makers
– Can be produced with existing facility lines, no additional investment in additional facility is needed
HEI(President : Kim Young Hwan) has recently developed next-generation memory 64M DDR(Double Data Rate) SD RAMs. HEI has supplied DDR SD RAM chips and modules to world’s leading computer makers including HP and IBM of US early this year, and as a result, has been recognized for its quality and been designated as the DDR SD RAMs supplier. The future for the product is very optimistic for it has received orders from other computer and work station makers. 64 megabit DDR SD RAMs that HEI is developing and producing use 0.22 micron circuit width technology and supports PC 266 specifications adopted by JEDEC(Joint Electron Device Engineering Council). The product supports various data bus width including 4,8 and 16 bit, clock frequency of 133 MHz, and data transmission speed of 266 Mbps(bit per second) per pin, twice as fast as other SD RAMs with the same capacity. It is suitable for products with large memory capacity needs like PC servers and high performance work stations. HEI plans to begin commercial production of 128 megabit DDR SD RAM product in the third quarter of this year followed by 64M DDR SD RAMs. A DDR SD RAM is a standard specification for next-generation high-speed dynamic RAMs adopted by leading chip makers, including Samsung Electronics and Fujitsu of Japan as well as HEI. The product uses the existing packaging and producing lines for 64 megabit SD RAMs, so can be produced with no additional facility investment. As the producing of rambus DRAM chipsets(Camino), most likely next-generation memory that is expected to compete with DDR SD RAMs is again postponed from May to September, the market for DDR SD RAMs is expected to grow. Also as DDR SD RAMs are taken into consideration to be the main memory device for PCs with non-Intel CPU, the market share is expected to grow a great deal from the second half of the ’99. HEI plans to complete the development of DDR SD RAMs from second half of this year, to be ready for the next-generation high-speed memory market and to obtain prior occupancy of the market in the early stage. HEI can now take an active measure with various next-generation memory chips lke direct rambus DRAMs and virtual channel memory.
