On Feb. 10 in San Jose, California, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and senior executives to discuss long-term supply cooperation in AI chips and high bandwidth memory (HBM). SK hynix has been a key partner supplying enterprise SSDs and server DRAM to Meta’s data centers, and through this meeting, the two leaders agreed to expand the scope of cooperation to include next-generation AI infrastructure.

Conversations centered around the strategic alignment of SK hynix’s HBM technology roadmap with Meta’s Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) project for AI accelerators. With timely and stable supply of SK hynix HBM as the foundation, Chairman Chey and Mark Zuckerberg discussed early coordination of their technological direction for next-generation products beyond HBM4 and HBM4E. Through these discussions, both parties explored ways to further optimize SK hynix’s HBM solutions for the MTIA platform.

The two companies also discussed expanding cooperation to identify key use cases for Meta’s AI glasses in Korea and enhance related services. This includes optimizing wearable devices by leveraging SK hynix’s low-power DRAM and NAND flash storage, supporting the development of AI-based models and applications for wearables, and exploring collaboration on the establishment of a dedicated Meta AI data center in Korea.
