hynix Developed 8 bit MCU for Car Audio

Hynix developed and began mass production of an 8-bit MCU for car audio, supporting digital tuning and CD/MP3 functions. Using RTL SoC design, it shortens development time. The company expects about 60 billion won in sales over three years.

hynix Semiconductor Inc. (hynix, www.hynix.com) announced yesterday it had completed development as well as launched volume production of a microcontroller unit (MCU) for car audio.

The 8-bit MCU is equipped with Phase Locked Loop (PLL), 32KB code read only memory (ROM), and 1KB data random access memory (RAM) for digitalized frequency selection function. The chip enables basic tuning while also accessing any CD player, CD changer, MP3 player, or other radio data system function integral to the audio device. By applying Register Transfer Level (RTL) technology in a System On Chip (SOC) environment, hynix expects prompt design technology upgrades which quickly address changes in circuit width while reducing development time.

Chae Jae Ho, hynix Vice President responsible for MCUs produced by the Standard Products unit of the System IC division said, “Car audio makers at home and in Southeast Asia are currently developing products equipped with our MCU. We expect revenue of 60 billion won for this device over the next three years.”
