· Hyundai Electronics has recently completed development and started volume production of three new microcontroller (MCU) units that provide LCD-control functions

Seoul, Korea, August 4, 2000 — Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. has recently completed development and started volume production of three new microcontroller (MCU) units that provide LCD-control functions. The products are three different versions of an 8-bit Mask ROM and One-Time Programmable (OTP) MCU. These new products represent eight months of research at a cost of 400 million won. The new MCUs contain a segment-type liquid crystal display (LCD) (2 seg. x 4 com) that provides display and analog-to-digital converter functions as well as timer and alarm functions. The products have enlarged memory capacities and support Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) functions. These MCUs are available in various package types designed to address the requirements of different market segments. Hyundai plans to supply 100 to 200 thousand units per month and is now producing at a rate of 10 thousand units per month. Product testing has been conducted by a leading manufacturer of electrical appliances and is now complete. These versions of the new MCU are well suited for in use in electric appliances, medical instruments, measuring instruments, and a variety of other items. The demand for such products has been steady, with a sharp increase in recent years. Hyundai is targeting sales of these new products to Southeast Asian markets, particularly China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Hyundai expects its annual sales of these MCUs will exceed 80 billion won within the next three years
