hynix Semiconductor to spin-off Telecommunication System Operation

– hynix announced yesterday that it is to spin-off its Telecommunication System operation, following the recent separation of handset and ADSL operations early in May

Seoul, Korea, May 30, 2001

hynix Semiconductor Inc. (hynix, www.hynix.com) announced yesterday that it is to spin-off its Telecommunication System operation, following the recent separation of handset and ADSL operations early in May.

This move will complete the spin-off of all the businesses in the Telecommunications Unit by the end of first half of this year. A new corporation will be established in June and be officially launched July 1. System operation sales were 94.5 billion won last year. Mr. Hang Gu Bahk, Executive Vice President of the former telecommunications unit will be appointed to manage the new company. He has worked at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) as head of the Mobile Telecommunications research department.

Mr. Park joined Hyundai Electronics in 1997. hynix completed the spin-off of non-core business units such as the satellite service and customer service operation. With the recent separation of the handset, ADSL and system operation divisions, hynix has reaffirmed its continuing commitment to restructuring solely as a focused Semiconductor company.
