Seoul, Korea, November 2, 2000 – Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. (HEI) recently announced the launch of the Collaborative Product & Process Innovation (CPI) system by its Semiconductor business unit. In planning since last May, the CPI system permits immediate release of new product in addition to improving product quality. It standardizes the product development process from initial research through pilot production so that critical technical information generated during development can be managed systematically. The resulting system eases the sharing of data, therefore making communication within the company more efficient. The CPI system totals six modules to be effected in three stages. The first two modules comprise the just-implemented first stage. Of these modules, one is an “e-community” intended to promote communication and sharing of information among researchers. The other is an “e-library” designed to manage approved documentation. The remaining modules will be deployed early next year. The objective of the CPI system’s first stage is to document and disseminate product development information. In the second stage, project management tools will be added. The original development specifications and final lot information will be integrated in CPI’s third stage. With the system in place, Hyundai foresees maximum efficiency in its research and development process. Efficiency, in turn, improves quality, increases cost savings, and reduces lead time for product development. The means for interchange of technical information within Hyundai will be unsurpassed when CPI is fully instituted in April of next year. HEI is an industry leader in the development, sales, marketing, and distribution of high-quality Semiconductors, Telecommunications, and Liquid Crystal Displays. Based in Korea, HEI maintains development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing facilities strategically located worldwide.
