– Expected to sell $200 million annually
HEI (President : Young-Hwan Kim) is going to produce the highest-speed 16M Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM, hereafter) for graphic use. 16M SDRAM (X 16), used for graphic in PCs and multimedia equipment, is the fastest SDRAM with 200 MHz in terms of its performing speed, and is a highly profitable product twice as expensive as the normal 16M SDRAM used for PC’s RAM. HEI has proven its finest technology level in the high-speed DRAM industry by developing 16M SDRAM for graphic use with 200 MHz performing speed for the first time in the industry. HEI plans to achieve annual sales of more than $200 million in the high-speed 16M SDRAM for graphic use by monthly providing 3-5 million of both 16M SDRAM with 183 MHz, which has been produced since April, and the one with 200 MHz, which is expected to be produced starting from this month. With all that, starting from the latter half of this year, HEI is planning to achieve annual sales of $100 million in the next-generation memory for graphic use, 64M SDRAMs (X 32), by producing a million per month. HEI is expected to reach total annual sales of more than $300 million in the high-speed SDRAM for graphic use field. Especially, 16M SDRAM and 64M SDRAM cost $3-4 and $12-14 respectively, more than twice as expensive as normal SDRAMs are, and a short supply of them is expected for a while due to a rush of orders from world famous graphic companies such as US Diamond. They expect the profitability of semiconductor business in HEI to improve much better due to a mass-production of the high-speed SDRAM for graphic use.
