Seoul, Korea, October 25, 2000 – Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. announced yesterday that it has launched an Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system in its Semiconductor and Administration business units. The ERP system, valued at 14 billion won (US$12.7 million), is being implemented as part of Hyundai’s digital management initiative and will enable the company to respond more effectively to market fluctuations. Hyundai is adopting SAP R/3, a leading ERP system offered by the German company known as Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing. Due to the product’s outstanding stability and integrity, SAP R/3 is the most commonly used ERP system in the world. SAP R/3 was implemented by Hyundai Semiconductor America (HSA) in 1996, by Hyundai Electronics America (HEA) in 1997, and six overseas sales subsidiaries deployed it in April, 2000. The launch of this system in the Semiconductor and Administration units has been planned since September of 1999 for the purpose of establishing a global strategy system. Hyundai’s Telecommunications and LCD units will adopt SAP R/3 in the near future in order to integrate the company’s e-business system. With SAP R/3, Hyundai can now generate a balance sheet for each business unit, thus strengthening the accountability of each unit. SAP R/3 also allows Hyundai to view various business indexes in real time, which helps managers make immediate adjustments to plans in response to changes in the market. Hyundai is using the new system to integrate the accounting, funding, and purchasing business processes. The sharing of information in real time facilitates prompt decision making based on the principles of open management
