Seoul, Korea, August 25, 2000 – Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. has developed the world’s first 15.0″/18.1″ thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) module which loads analog-digital converting (ADC) board. The ADC board, which is loaded in the printed circuit board of a TFT-LCD module, is the primary component within the LCD monitor that handles the conversion of analog signals to digital signals. The ADC board had been developed independent of the LCD module. The new products enables monitor manufacturers to save more than 35 percent of the costs associated with control boards and connectors, and reduces the lead time for interface development. This approach also improves reliability by controlling the data loss and electrical wave issues associated with connection of parts within a system. Hyundai will begin volume production of the new product this September with a planned capacity of 20,000 units per month. This volume will provide a stable supply to monitor manufacturers and an increasing profit to LCD manufacturers in the LCD monitors market, which is projected to rapidly grow from 7 million units this year to 16 million units by 2002. Hyundai has already made arrangements with approximately 10 monitor manufacturers to establish a production schedule with volume commitments. Thus, Hyundai expects sales of the new intelligent TFT-LCD module will generate the momentum necessary to capture leadership of the existing LCD monitors market, while in the future also enabling the company to take the lead in the large-sized monitors market as well.
