CDP is a global initiative led by financial institutions worldwide that calls on major global companies to disclose environmental management data related to climate change, water security, biodiversity, and other sustainability issues. More than 22,000 companies globally report through CDP, and that data is used as an official reference to support decision-making by various stakeholders, including global financial institutions and international organizations.

The recognition reflects SK hynix’s strong execution in establishing clear goals and faithfully carrying out the various tasks required to achieve them. In the area of climate change, SK hynix became the first South Korean semiconductor company to join the RE100 initiative in 2020 and has been sourcing 100% renewable energy for the electricity used at its overseas operations since 2022. That same year, the company introduced its ESG strategy framework, PRISM — Pursue, Restore, Innovate, Synchronize, Motivate — setting the direction for its sustainable management. Building on this framework, SK hynix has been actively implementing a mid-to-long-term roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

In the area of water security, SK hynix is continuing its efforts to responsibly manage the clean water essential to semiconductor manufacturing. To reduce water consumption during the production process, the company has established a management system, which includes introducing proactive reduction technologies and expanding water reuse. In addition, discharged water quality is controlled under strict internal standards that exceed legal requirements, while real-time monitoring is conducted to minimize impact on nearby streams. The company is also taking the lead in preserving a healthy aquatic ecosystem where diverse aquatic species can coexist.

“This award represents another valuable opportunity to demonstrate the company’s sincere commitment to sustainable management to global stakeholders” said Vice President Jaehyun Cho, Head of Policy Design at SK hynix, who attended the event as the recipient. “Moving forward, we will continue to address the climate crisis responsibly while making every effort to ensure the clean management of the water resources essential to the semiconductor industry.”
