Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. (HEI) announced yesterday that it is actively supplying Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (DDR SDRAM) modules for main memory products to leading personal computer (PC) manufacturers. HEI provided Hyundai-branded DDR SDRAM 128M and 256M modules for the recently introduced Presario 7000Z desktop from Compaq Computer Corporation as well as various Pavilion models from Hewlett Packard The company estimates the sales of DDR SDRAM could total US$ 380 million for this year, equaling nearly 21% of the rapidly growing DDR market. Hyundai expects that the adoption of DDR SDRAM begun by Compaq and Hewlett Packard will rapidly extend to other PC makers such IBM, Gateway and Dell as well as major Taiwanese motherboard makers, boosting the need for the cutting-edge chip. The data processing rate of DDR SDRAM is double that of synchronous DRAM, current memory standard for PCs. DDR SDRAM is expected to account for 15% of the DRAM market this year and over 40% next year. Hyundai already leads the DDR SDRAM market in networking chips. The company plans to expand the DDR SDRAM supply for main memory products beginning this year. Bolstered by recent validations from major Central Processing Unit (CPU) as well as chipset makers, Hyundai is poised to supply DDR modules to all leading PC manufacturers. In the year ahead, Hyundai will also grow the range of its DDR products thus offering laptop and server makers a DDR option as well. Following this strategy, the company will position itself as a top DDR memory module supplier. About Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd.
